ENERGY STAR® is a combination of builder construction practices and wise homeowner decisions that include:
- House framing details to reduce air infiltration and leakage.
- High quality insulation installation to reduce heat losses.
- Using ENERGY STAR® labeled windows & doors.
- High efficiency heating, cooling and domestic hot water systems.
- Proper ventilation
- Selecting lighting and appliances that display the ENERGY STAR® label.
Home Energy Consultants, Inc. Services:
- Preliminary plan review utilizing REM/Rate residential energy analysis rating software. (Full set of construction drawings required.)
- HVAC and mechanical systems review—by telephone or e-mail—with project manager and/or other designated person(s). Manual J heat loss calculations are HVAC contractor’s responsibility (soon to be required).
- Site Visit to perform foundation inspection
- Site Visit to perform concurrent pre-insulation installation inspection and HVAC duct system leakage (if applicable) test.
- Site Visit to perform pre-drywall inspection of installed insulation.
- Site Visit to perform blower door test, combustion safety test and final duct leakage test.
- Administrative handling of required documentation to obtain ENERGY STAR® labeling and NYSERDA incentives (if applicable).
- Client is provided with the following completed documentation:
- Home Energy Rating Certificate
- Thermal Bypass Inspection Checklist
- Combustion Safety Testing Report.
